Frequently asked questions
Good questions deserve honest answers.
Everything you might want to know about Evaluu — how it works, what it costs, and how we look after your information.
01
Getting started
What is Evaluu?
Evaluu is a simple way to know what your belongings are really worth. You scan an item with your phone, and Evaluu identifies it and gives you a fair, real-time value based on what similar items have actually sold for. From there you can build an inventory, document things for insurance, or sell when you're ready.
How does scanning an item work?
Point your camera at the item and take a photo. Evaluu identifies what it is — the brand, the model, the category — and matches it against real sales data. Within moments you'll see a value, a confidence level, and the option to save it to your inventory.
If a scan isn't sure, or gets something not quite right, you can confirm or adjust the details yourself — a brand, a model, a condition — and the value updates. Most of the time the scan does the work; when it needs a hand, you're in control.
Who is Evaluu for?
Anyone who needs a fair answer to "what is this actually worth?" Most of our users come to us during a transition — clearing a family estate, packing up for a move, navigating a divorce or downsizing, building an insurance inventory, or turning something into cash this week.
You don't need to be a reseller, a collector, or an expert. If you own things, Evaluu is for you.
What kinds of items can Evaluu value?
Furniture, electronics, clothing, jewelry, collectibles, tools, kitchenware, art, instruments — most things a household owns. Coverage is strongest for items with active resale markets. For rare or highly specialized pieces, Evaluu shows a lower confidence level so you know when a professional appraisal might be worth it.
Is Evaluu free to try?
Yes. The Discover plan is free forever — scan and value up to 3 items with no credit card required. It's built so you can see how Evaluu works before deciding whether a paid plan makes sense for you.
02
How valuations Works
How accurate are the valuations?
Evaluu pulls real data from actual completed sales across major marketplaces. Valuations are based on what similar items have actually sold for — not asking prices, not estimates. Confidence levels are shown alongside every value so you know how strong the data is.
Where does the pricing data come from?
From completed, real-world sales across major resale marketplaces. We look at what buyers actually paid, factor in condition and recency, and weight recent sales more heavily. Asking prices are ignored — anyone can ask anything. Sold prices are what matter.
What does the confidence level mean?
It tells you how much sales data sits behind a value. A high confidence level means many recent, comparable sales support the number. A lower level means the data is thinner — the item may be rare, unusual, or hard to match. We'd rather show you an honest confidence level than an overconfident number.
How often are values updated?
It depends on your plan. Discover values refresh monthly, Build refreshes weekly, and Value refreshes daily with real-time market data. Markets move — especially for electronics, collectibles, and seasonal items — so fresher data means better decisions.
Can I use Evaluu values for insurance documentation?
Evaluu generates detailed, dated PDF reports with photos, descriptions, and market values for every item you've cataloged. Many users share these with their insurance provider. We recommend checking with your insurer about their specific documentation requirements.
Is an Evaluu valuation the same as a professional appraisal?
No, and we want to be straightforward about that. Evaluu gives you a fair market value based on real sales — ideal for everyday decisions, inventories, and selling. A certified appraisal is a formal document prepared by a licensed appraiser, sometimes required for legal matters, fine art, or high-value jewelry. For most household items, Evaluu is all you need. For the exceptions, we'll show a lower confidence level so you know when to seek one.
03
Plans & Billing
What's the difference between the plans?
Discover is free — scan and value up to 3 items. Build, at $9 a month, covers up to 50 items with weekly valuations, a net worth dashboard, and insurance-ready exports. Value, at $29 a month, adds daily valuations, AI listing generation, one-tap listing to multiple marketplaces, and profit tracking. Scale, at $99 a month, is built for estate sale companies and professional sellers with team seats and volume tools.
Can I switch plans at any time?
Yes. Upgrade, downgrade, or cancel whenever you want. If you upgrade mid-cycle, you'll be prorated for the remainder. If you downgrade, the change takes effect at your next billing date.
What happens to my items if I downgrade?
Your items stay in your account. If you drop below a tier's item limit, you'll still be able to view everything — you just won't be able to add new items until you're back within the limit or upgrade again.
Is there a contract or commitment?
No contracts, no commitments. Monthly plans bill monthly and can be canceled anytime. Annual plans are a single payment for 12 months and offer the best per-month rate.
Do I need a plan just to help with one event, like an estate?
Many people use Evaluu for a single season — an estate, a move, a claim — and that's completely fine. Subscribe monthly for as long as the work takes, then cancel when it's done. Your data stays in your account, and you can export everything before you go.
Does Evaluu take a cut when I sell something?
No. Evaluu is a subscription — we don't take a percentage of your sales. The marketplaces where you list (like eBay or Poshmark) charge their own standard fees, and Evaluu shows you those fees up front so your profit numbers are honest.
04
Selling your things
Do I need to be a reseller to use Evaluu?
Not at all. Most of our users are regular people — someone clearing out a parent's home, preparing for a move, or just curious about what their things are worth. The Discover and Build plans are built specifically for people who aren't ready to sell yet.
Which marketplaces does Evaluu work with?
Evaluu connects with major resale marketplaces including eBay, Poshmark, and Facebook Marketplace, with more on the way. On the Value plan, you can create a listing once and publish it to multiple marketplaces in one tap.
How does AI listing generation work?
Once an item is scanned and valued, Evaluu writes the listing for you — title, description, category, condition notes, and a suggested price based on real sold data. You review it, adjust anything you'd like, and publish. What used to take twenty minutes per item takes about one.
Do sales happen inside Evaluu?
Sales complete on the marketplace where the buyer found your item, under that marketplace's buyer and seller protections. Evaluu handles the valuing, listing, and tracking — and keeps your inventory and profit numbers in one calm place.
How do I know what's worth selling versus donating?
Scan it and let the number decide. Once you can see that the dresser is worth $240 and the bread maker is worth $12, the choice gets much easier. Many people scan a whole room, sort by value, and draw a line — sell above it, donate below it. It turns an emotional decision into a clear one.
05
Privacy & security
Is my information secure?
Yes. Everything you store in Evaluu is protected with 256-bit SSL encryption in transit and encrypted at rest on enterprise-grade infrastructure. We built Evaluu for some of life's most sensitive moments, and we treat your data with that in mind.
Will you sell my data?
No. Never. We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with third parties without your consent. Our business is subscriptions, not your information. You can read the full details on our Data Integrity page.
Who can see my inventory?
You, and only you — unless you choose to share it. Your inventory, photos, and values are private by default. Nothing becomes public unless you publish a listing, and even then, only the listing itself is visible.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes, at any time. You can export your full inventory, including photos and values, and you can delete your account and its data whenever you choose. Your things are yours. Your data is too.
Does Evaluu keep my photos?
Photos you scan are stored securely in your account so your inventory stays complete — that's what makes insurance documentation and listings possible. They're encrypted, private to you, and removed if you delete the item or your account.
